Residents are warned to beware of bogus debt collection letters which claim to come from HMRC.  Never respond to bogus letters.  If you believe a letter is genuinely from HMRC, contact the them using a telephone number, email address or postal address that is publicly listed as being the correct contact details for HMRC.

If you are worried about being scammed make sure you are up to date on the the latest scams and that you know what to do if you suspect you have been scammed.  For more information on how to combat scammers see below:

  • Make a scam/rogue trader complaint to Trading Standards via the Citizen’s Advice Consumer Service website or call them on 034 5404 0506.
  • To keep up to date on scamming issues keep an eye on the Warwickshire Trading Standards Website, Facebook page and Twitter feed.
  • Sign up to scam alerts from Warwickshire County Council here.
  • Avoid rogue traders.  Use the Warwickshire Trading Standards No Rogue Traders Here approved trader scheme.
