There will be another chance to get your electric blanket tested on Friday, 5th October at Nuneaton Fire Station. Bookings are free of charge and open to all Warwickshire residents aged 50+.
In 2017 one in every three of the electric blankets tested failed and faulty electric blankets are a well known cause of house fires.
The tests, organised by Warwickshire County Councils Trading Standards will be carried out by an expert electrical examiner. Book today by calling the Trading Standards Service on 019 2641 4024 (9.00am – 5.00pm) or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t leave it too long as appointments are allocated on a first come first served basis.
Act on Energy will also be at the testing stations to provide free energy efficiency advice. Act on Energy is a charity that encourages energy conservation by providing free and impartial advice to householders and small businesses in Warwickshire and the surrounding areas.
If you are unable to take advantage of the testing programme you can check your own blankets by looking for the following:
- the fabric is worn or frayed
- there are scorch marks anywhere
- the tie tapes are damaged or missing
- the flex is worn or damaged
- any connections are loose.
Remember older blankets in regular use are much more likely to have one or more of the above faults.
