10 Years of Walking for Health

Posted on 28/07/2011

The Nuneaton and Bedworth Walking for Health scheme celebrated its 10 year anniversary in June and has just reached another special milestone after reaching 400 members! The scheme is lucky to have a team of very dedicated volunteers who lead the walks every week. Seven of the walk leaders have been leading the walks since the scheme started in 2001. Zella Storey, Judy Clarke, Jacqui Fulton, Ann Addison, Ann and John Thompson and Kathy McGale are all ‘original’ walk leaders.

Every week 75 to 100 people attend the walks and their popularity is testament to the welcoming and friendly attitude of the walk leaders.

NBLT’s Community Walking Coordinator Louise Gardner commented “The walking scheme would not be so successful without the walk leaders. They have helped hundreds of people to get more active and make new friends. All the walkers of the scheme would like to thank the walk leaders for their dedication and congratulate them on reaching this milestone. Here’s to the next 10 years!”

The flourishing walking scheme runs a programme of health walks aiming to help people get more active. It is part of the national Walking for Health programme and offers led walks for beginners.

The NBLT walking scheme welcomes new walkers throughout the year. Eight free walks take place each week starting from a variety of locations around Nuneaton and Bedworth. If you’d like to join the walks or train as a Volunteer Walk Leader please contact NBLT’s Community Walking Co-ordinator, Louise Gardner, by phone 02476 400585 or email walking@nbleisuretrust.org.
