Pride in Camp Hill has triumphed at a regional award, scooping the Chair’s Prize for ‘Outstanding Regeneration Project of the decade’.
The annual Regen West Midlands Prizes are a celebration of excellence in regeneration in the region. This year’s awards, which were held in Birmingham on the 19th October, were aimed at showcasing the best of the past decade's creativity and acknowledging the collective hard work over that time.
Pride in Camp Hill was chosen for the Chair’s Prize ahead of other high profile projects such as Birmingham’s Bullring development, Coventry’s Richo Areana and North Sollihull’s Regeneration. In awarding the prize Adrian Passmore, Chief Executive for Regen West Midlands, commented that the scheme, based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, bridged many of the individual award categories which included community engagement, outstanding place and economic development.
Pride in Camp Hill was also highly commended in the ‘Outstanding Housing Project of the Decade’ category, which particularly highlights the projects commitment to high quality and environmentally sustainable homes, community engagement and economic transformation of the area.
Pride in Camp Hill, a community inspired regeneration initiative, works in partnership with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council, Lovell, Barratt Mercia, Advantage West Midlands, Homes and Communities Agency, the Princes Foundation and local residents and businesses to deliver a range of improvements to help revitalise Camp Hill and create a vibrant urban community. The project was launched in 1999 and has achieved major social and economic regeneration success over the years.
Chris Egan, Programme Manager for Pride in Camp Hill, said, “We are immensely proud of our achievements over the last decade and welcome this recognition from Regen West Midlands. The success of the project is largely dependant upon our commitment to partnership working and our close working relationship with the local community.”
Dennis Harvey, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and board member for Pride in Camp Hill, said, “This award is fantastic news for the Borough and shows the ambition and success of the Pride in Camp Hill project. The fact that we have beaten competition such as the Bullring in Birmingham is testament in itself of the scale of regeneration and improvement the project is bringing to the local area.”
Peter Young, Chair of the Pride in Camp Hill Board, added, “We have seen some significant improvements in Camp Hill over the last decade, and I am sure that over the next yen years the area will continue to see the benefits of the investment and dedication of all those involved in its regeneration.”
