Summertime boost for Camp Hill youngsters

Camp Hill youngsters are set to have a fantastic summer, thanks to a massive funding boost to the Camp Hill Young People’s Holiday Fund (CHYPS).

Local Authoress and CHYPS Patron, Rosie Goodwin was on hand to receive the cheque – which totalled £4880.

The grant was awarded through the Grassroots Warwickshire Fund which is administered for the Office of the Third Sector by the Heart of England Foundation and supports local groups to develop projects which are of benefit to the local community.

The scheme is the brainchild of the Camp Hill Residents’ Forum and takes disadvantaged young people aged between 7 & 17yrs old, from the Camp Hill area, on fully supervised holidays during the school summer break.

The funding means that more young people than ever will benefit from the project, which saw 24 places available last year – this could now top 35.  The grant will cover travel costs, subsidises fund raising activities and produce publicity material to raise the profile of the group.

Jayne Watson, Community Development Officer enthused: “Everyone is absolutely thrilled with the grant award.  We are so grateful for all the support, especially Kat Hall at the Heart of England Foundation who has supported the project all the way.

Kat Hall commented ‘it ‘s great to see projects such as this being funded by the Grassroots Programme. £5000 can make a huge difference to a community and the effects of the project can be felt for many years to come. We are now in the final few months of the programme and hope to see lots more groups applying for funding to make a difference in their communities’.

“CHYPS has such a big impact locally.  Many of the young people that benefit from the project would not normally have a holiday.  It is immensely rewarding to see the difference it can make.”

There are more fundraising events for the diary with a table top sale in September and the Shout Concert on 27th November at Bulkington Village Hall.  The SHOUT Gospel choir took part in the prestigious BBC Radio 3 Choir of the year.  They play music from Stevie Wonder, U2, the Rolling stones.
