
Our board members come from a variety of backgrounds and each has a wealth of experience in their chosen field. The result is a dynamic group of individuals determined to take Camp Hill into the future.
Peter Young, Pride in Camp Hill chairman and managing director of the Heartland Evening News. Peter was appointed independent chair of the Camp Hill project in 1999. Peter, who was born in Nuneaton, founded the Heartland Evening News in 1992, creating 40 new jobs in the area. He works closely with local and regional authorities to promote the area in general and is also director of Creative Media Communications and UK Rally Ltd.
Ben Bolgar, design director at The Prince's Foundation. Ben is currently responsible for the design development on more than ten major area-based projects, including a new urban extension to Northampton and a major new development site in Newquay, Cornwall. He is widely experienced in co-ordinating urban and architectual design exercises.
Mark Abrams, Advantage West Midlands director for Coventry and Warwickshire. Mark joined Advantage West Midlands in August 2003. He is responsible for delivering the Regional Economic Strategy in Coventry and Warwickshire. Mark has facilitated the growth of the Regeneration Zone and High Technology Corridor as well as supporting the regionally significant projects.
His previous career started when he left school to join a small educational software business, which he bought in 1989. Mark developed the Birmingham company, expanding its services and client base. In 2000, Mark led the company to a highly-successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market with a market capitalisation of over £35 million.
Councillor Dennis Harvey, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council, has been a member of the authority since its inception in 1974, making him the longest serving councillor. He was elected to the Shadow Authority in 1973 at the age of 22. Councillor Harvey has been Leader of the Council since 1986. He lives in Camp Hill and represents the ward of Camp Hill. He is employed on a part-time basis as the administrative manager of Life Education (Heart of England) Ltd.
Councillor Sid Tooth, Warwickshire County Council. Sid has represented local residents since 1981. He is the current chair of the Adult and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee and also sits on the Health Policy Panel and Nuneaton and Bedworth Area Committee. Sid is now retired but used to work as a registrar at a college of further education. He is a member of the British Institute of Management and served as Chair of the County Council in 1994/5.
Peter Shearing, director of skills Learning and Skills Council Coventry and Warwickshire. Peter has worked for the Learning and Skills Council since its inception in 2001. Previously he worked for the Training and Enterprise Council. He also sits on the board of the Coventry Local Strategic Partnership and is Chair of the Hillfields Partnership Board.
John Taylor, director of North Warwickshire Primary Care Trust. John has been a director at North Warwickshire PCT since 2002. He has responsibility for community health services and provides a link between the two organisations. As a board member of Pride in Camp Hill he brings extensive experience of being a board member of a number of health organisations.
Lynn Keeley, Lynn runs Hollyberries Nursery Ltd, in Camp Hill. She established the nursery in 1990. Lynn brings to the board her business expertise, knowledge of the area and the views of local parents.
Residents' Forum Members - In 2004 we formed a new group to influence the Pride in Camp Hill Board. The five members of our Residents' Forum all sit on the board. Between them they have more than 100 years' knowledge of Camp Hill. The members hold regular open sessions, allowing residents to complain, comment and compliment.
The forum members have equal standing with all other board members.
Project Director
Colin Ball, project director. Colin joined the Pride in Camp Hill team in January 2001. He has a 30-year history in housing and regeneration projects. Previous positions include a variety of roles at Coventry Churches Housing Association (now Touchstone), chief executive at Charnwood Forest HA and managing director of the then newly-formed fch Housing and Care.
