To improve the social and economic future of Camp Hill, we are working to give residents new career opportunities and skills.
Opportunities Centre - The Opportunities Centre opened in late 2003. Since then it has helped hundreds of residents gain IT or construction qualifications. The centre offers free training not only to those living in Camp Hill, but also to anyone living in the Regeneration Zone areas of Nuneaton and Bedworth.
Camp Hill Enterprise and Employment ResourceS (CHEERS) - The CHEERS team has helped more than 140 residents search for jobs, supported 104 local businesses and helped 54 new business start-ups since it opened its doors. New businesses include a florists, hairdressers, plumbers and motorbike trainers.
Home Tuition - The Home Tuition scheme provides local young people with free tutoring after school. Warwickshire County Council's Positive About Young People initiative provided additional funding to allow this scheme to continue. Since its launch in 2000, the Basics of Success project has helped more than 300 students get on the path to a better future. Following recommendations by local headteachers, school pupils are offered weekly tutoring sessions free of charge, and the benefit of one-on-one tuition.
Early Years' Centre - The revamped Early Years' Centre opened its doors in summer 2005 following a massive multi-million pound refurbishment, with funding support from the Learning and Skills Council and Warwickshire County Council. It now boasts a parents' information room, informal meeting rooms, state-of-the-art learning equipment and a new toy lending library. The centre is also home to Warwickshire County Council's Adult and Community Learning Team.
The aim is to provide a one-stop shop for parents and the community.
Detached Youth Project - Each summer more than 100 young people take part in our summer youth programme. Activities include DJ mixing, theme park visits, sports and arts. Recently, the young people also took part in a community clean-up, including a graffiti-busting day. Proving home is where the art is, they produced murals for the shops on the estate.
The Hub - The Hub opened in August 2004. It offers residents the chance to pop in and meet others, and also find out the latest news on the development. Events are held throughout the year including history lessons and writing courses. In addition to cups of tea, residents can access support from the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation and others. The Hub is also home to the Residents' Forum.
Festival - In 2000 the Pride in Camp Hill team resurrected the Camp Hill Festival, and, with help and support from local people, have helped put it firmly on the community's calendar. The event is now in it's fifth year and is now organised solely by a committee of residents, led by Maggie Smith . More than 1,000 people enjoyed the last festival.
